02

The format

How it worked

A month-long prediction pool with one deliberate twist in the scoring. Everything else was kept as simple as we could make it.

  1. Make your picks

Players called the winner of each match, free to enter and open to anyone in Canada.

  2. Earn 1 or 2 points

A correct favourite paid 1 point. A correct underdog paid 2 — the twist the whole contest turned on.

  3. Watch the board

Standings were published every single day for 30 days, so everyone could see where they sat.

  4. Two stages, one reset

Stage 2 started everybody back at zero, with its own grand prize — a second chance at the title.

03

The scoring

One point for safe. Two for brave.

Favourite and underdog status was set by group stage qualification, so there was nothing to argue about — only something to decide.

1 point

Back the favourite

The favourite wins and you bank a point. Safe, steady, and never quite enough on its own.

Low risk
2 points

Back the underdog

Call an upset correctly and you take double — enough to jump several places overnight.

Double reward

That one-point difference changed the whole contest.

Playing it safe kept you steady but never got you ahead. Taking a risk could move you up the board overnight — or cost you the day. Every match came with a real decision attached, and across 30 days the maths rewarded the players who knew when to gamble, not the ones who gambled constantly or never gambled at all.

The journey

Thirty days, two stages

A long grind, a clean reset, and a finish decided by a single point.

  1. Day 1

    The opening matches

34 players make their first picks as the group stage kicks off.

  2. Stage 1

    The grind

Points build slowly through the group matches. Consistency matters more than anything else.

  3. End of stage 1

    A clear leader

One player pulls away from a tightly packed top ten and takes the first grand prize.

  4. The reset

    Everyone back to zero

Stage 2 starts level: 27 players tied for first, and anyone who started slowly is right back in it.

  5. Mid stage 2

    The field catches up

An early leader looks comfortable, then gets reeled in. A six-way tie forms at the top.

  6. Final day

    Decided by one point

The stage ends with two players tied on the exact same score — and the next player a single point behind.
